We had Elder Scott D. Whiting from the Seventy come to our mission this week and he gave us hell fire and brimstone! It was awesome!!! A lot of it, obviously, related to the WATAC and how we can do better, but a lot of what he said I would like to share with you (:
First, he talked to us about how the Holy Ghost speaks to us, and how we receive revelation. He advised us that if we don't know how to receive revelation or if we don't know how the Holy Ghost speaks to us, WE NEED TO FIND OUT...NOW! The last days are coming and we need to be able to know how and what God is telling us!
Another thing that he talked about was the Atonement! I love the Atonement! The Atonement is the POWER to CHANGE!! It is the power to make bad men/women good, and good men/women better (: That is the truth! I am so grateful for the Atonement!
He also discussed the topic of Grace with us. The Bible Dictionary says,
"The main idea of the word is divine means of help or strength, given through the bounteous mercy and love of Jesus Christ. It is through the grace of the Lord Jesus, made possible by His atoning sacrifice... It is likewise through the grace of the Lord that individuals, through faith in the Atonement of Jesus Christ and repentance of their sins, receive strength and assistance to do good works that they otherwise would not be able to maintain if left to their own means. This grace is an enabling power that allows men and women to lay hold on eternal life and exaltation after they have expended their own best efforts."
I am so grateful for Grace!!
OHHHHH okay, so he brought up this awesome prospective about the second coming. He said, "Is Christ waiting for wickedness or more righteousness?" ... mic drop... I have never thought about that!
The last thing Elder Whiting talked to us about was the Intro to the Book of Mormon; he put emphasis on a couple words,
"We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith WILL gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost. (See Moroni 10:3–5.)
Those who gain this divine witness from the Holy Spirit WILL also come to know by the same power that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, that Joseph Smith is His revelator and prophet in these last days, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord’s kingdom once again established on the earth, preparatory to the Second Coming of the Messiah."
With that kind of a promise, there is no way that the Book of Mormon is not true! I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that the Book of Mormon is true and that it can and WILL bring you closer to God and Jesus Christ, and you WILL find peace and happiness in this life as you read it.
