Portland Temple trip w/ Bailey - November 12, 2018

Heyyy everyone! It was quite the amazing week! On Saturday, we took a trip to the Portland Temple with the Young Single Adult Branch and it was amazing! Sister Hutchings and I went with our recent convert Bailey while the other sisters stayed in Olympia. Hutch and I rode down with a YSA member named Emily and the Branch President and his wife :) It was such a good time! The Branch President and his wife are amazing and we are so grateful that we had the opportunity to be with them for the 2 hour drive down! They are incredible and such a great example of putting their whole heart and mind into the work. After we were done at the temple we went to Chang's Mongolian Grill, and friends, it was soooooooo good!!! Not to mention that it was Sister Wright's 50th birthday (that's the branch presidents wife)! It was honestly the best day and the spirit that was felt within the Temple was incredible. We had MLC on Tuesday and it went really well! Sister Hutchings and I gave another training. We talked about revelation and the Holy Ghost as a follow up to Elder Whiting's visit. We have Zone Conference this week, so we'll be giving the same training, but to more missionaries! Sister Hutchings and I mesh really well, so we don't mind giving trainings together (: Here are some things we talked about from the training: -What is the point of a spiritual prompting if you don't act? -The Holy Ghost is consistent with the commandments. -As good as you are, more is required. -CHOOSE to receive the Holy Ghost each and everyday. This should be your very first thought in the morning! -If you're not speaking by the spirit, you're talking not teaching. Don't waste everyone's time. -Focus more on your mind and heart. -As we are diligent, we are showing God that we are ready to receive the Spirit. Here are some highlights from the week: -(I forgot to include this last week) Bailey bore his testimony in sacrament meeting about his conversion. He talked about how before he was introduced to the church, he lived a good life but things were just very foggy. Now that he's been baptized and striving to follow Jesus Christ each day, there's more clarity and purpose to his life. He said that his life just seems easier! His testimony is so powerful and I felt the spirit so strong! -We went knocking right by the State Capitol in downtown Olympia on election day. It was crazy! Everyone was getting super political... someone even had a bus for people to drop off their ballots😂 -We met the cutest family that I'm in love with! The little 3 year old girl's name is Melody and she plays the violin! We danced and played the violin together and had the best time. Then to finish off the night, we sang the Wise man built his house upon a rock. They knew that song from their Christian church! It was awesome. -Tender mercy! After getting several doors slammed in our faces and getting cussed out, we knocked on a man's door. He opened up and instantly the spirit was there. He was very sincere and talked about how he met with missionaries in the past and had a desire to follow Jesus Christ's example, but he worked every Sunday and wasn't able to come to church! But earlier that day, he had found out that he was getting every Sunday off from then on and was thinking about coming back to church. I felt prompted to share my Grandma Sherry's favorite scripture with him in 2 Nephi 22:2 and he started tearing up. He recognized that it was no coincidence that we knocked on his door. Later I asked him what his name is and he said "Robert Peterson." That's my grandpa's name that passed away when my dad was really young! He's married to my Grandma Sherry, so the whole experience was extremely special (: I know that our ancestors are right alongside us, helping us with the work! I love you all! Have the best week and remember to CHOOSE the spirit each and every day!
